EnglishUncle helps Indian learners practise English through guided lessons, speaking exercises, and voice-based features. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.
1. Overview
We collect only the information needed to run the app, save your learning progress, improve lesson quality, and support voice practice. We do not sell your personal information.
2. Data We Collect
Account and device information
- Device identifier used to create and restore your learner profile.
- Email address or other account details if you register or upgrade your account.
- Technical information such as app version, device type, and connection diagnostics.
Learning data
- Selected language and English learning level.
- Roadmap progress, completed practices, scores, and session status.
- Usage events such as app opens, screen views, and practice completion analytics.
Voice and audio data
- Live microphone audio when you start speaking or voice practice features.
- Connection and performance metadata needed to deliver real-time audio sessions.
3. Why We Ask for Microphone Permission
EnglishUncle requests android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO so you can:
- Speak answers during pronunciation and speaking practice.
- Use voice practice sessions with the app’s English tutor.
- Send live audio for speech recognition, pronunciation feedback, and conversation flow.
The microphone is used only when a voice-based feature is started by you. It is not required to browse regular lesson content.
4. How We Use Your Data
- To create and store your roadmap and practice progress on our servers.
- To deliver lessons, text-to-speech, speaking exercises, and voice sessions.
- To measure app performance, feature usage, and learning flow quality.
- To troubleshoot crashes, connection issues, and audio/session failures.
- To improve content and product decisions for learners in India.
5. Sharing and Service Providers
We may share limited data with service providers that help us operate the app. These providers may process data on our behalf for hosting, analytics, or voice delivery.
- Our own backend services hosted for account, roadmap, and progress storage.
- Analytics providers such as Firebase Analytics to understand app usage and stability.
- Voice and real-time communication infrastructure used to run audio practice sessions.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share your information for unrelated advertising.
6. Data Retention
We retain account and roadmap information for as long as it is needed to provide the service, maintain your progress, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
Audio used in live voice sessions may be processed in real time. If we store any related logs, transcripts, or diagnostics, we retain them only as long as reasonably needed for service delivery, quality review, or troubleshooting.
7. Your Choices
- You can deny microphone permission, but voice-based features may not work.
- You can revoke microphone access anytime from Android app settings.
- You can stop using the app and request deletion of your account data.
- You can choose whether to register an account or continue only with a device-based profile, if offered.
8. Children’s Privacy
EnglishUncle is designed for general learners and families, but it is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate consent, please contact us so we can review and remove the data if required.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
